Conversations on the power of creativity in helping us heal

Feels like Healing Cover Art

I have a brand new series of my podcast Feels Like Healing

In this podcast I talk to other people about how creativity can be an immense healing tool for all of us when it comes to dealing with grief, trauma and mental health struggles.

For me personally, this stems from losing my Dad when I was 21 to Multiple Sclerosis and that being the catalyst for my decision to become a singer/songwriter.

Having posted online about my grief for the first time on the anniversary of his death, the level of responses from people made me realise that these were subjects that we all struggled to talk about.

Music had always been a big part of my life ever since I was a teenager and I first discovered the Beatles and Bob Dylan, but I'd never considered trying to do it as my job! However when Dad died, I felt compelled to try to do 'something' in my life which would make me feel alive and connected to others.

Little did I know at first how much I needed music and songwriting in my life to help me process the death of my Dad, even if I wasn't writing about him directly, the simple act of being creative was a huge catharsis for me.

It’s also become clear to me since the pandemic how much joy music and the creative arts bring to people and how vital they are for all of our mental health and well-being.

I hope listeners to this show will draw comfort in the commonality of all our experiences of turning our grief and loss into something positive and healing.
